Kindergarten travels through time: Cave Paintings

Kindergarten students just finished up a unit on the Cave Paintings of Lascaux. We discussed artists who were alive thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of years ago. We saw photographs of the caves that still exist in France and Spain. Kindergartners watched the short cartoon "The Cave Painter of Lascaux" and talked about how the ancient artists created their art. Next, we learned to draw several animals using basic shapes. We chose our favorite animal and drew it on our own cave wall we created out of crumpled paper. Finally, kindergartners used oil pastel to color their pictures and add any extra detail they would like. See more of our cave paintings on our website on Artsonia.com!
