Fourth Grade just completed 19th century portraits. Selfies and monsters!

Fourth grade was staying put in the 19th century for their self-portrait project.  Together, we learned about the history of photography and saw many examples of Daguerreotypes, which we would later model our portraits after.  We started our self-portraits by learning how to map our face.  We then used light and shade to create depth.  Fourth grade used brown colored pencils to imitate the old photography.  The wide eyes and blank stares matched the Daguerreotypes perfectly.  We started a second portrait too - but this time we drew ourselves as our favorite monster!  Again, we used light and shade.  Finally, fourth grade used watercolor pencils to add a hint of color to their old portraits.  There are a few more examples on our website on Artsonia.com.
