Day of the Dead in fourth grade - Sugar Skull Portraits

All the classes at Grant-White learned a lot during Hispanic Heritage Month.  Each day Ms. Suarez would tell us about a remarkable Hispanic over the intercom and teach us the Spanish word of the day.  In Art Class we integrated these studies and made some beautiful Day of the Dead Art.

Fourth grade made sugar skull portraits.  We talked about repetition and pattern, and embellishments. We also honed our watercolor skills.

Kids from Mrs. Rodriguez's class got to come to art class in their costumes on Halloween.

Here's the class watching an informational movie about Day of the Dead.

I wouldn't mind teaching kids in costume every day.
